A solid White bedding set on a 300 thread count, 100% GOTS Certified Organic Cotton sateen base. White is the most versatile colourway in the Cottsbury Classic range - a clean, cool optical white achieved through GOTS-compliant processing rather than harsh bleaching agents. On a sateen weave, which brings more yarn to the surface than a standard plain or percale weave, white takes on a soft luminosity and a slightly heavier drape than matte white bedding at the same thread count. It is the foundational choice in the Classic collection: works with everything, reads in any room, and serves as the natural base for mixing with other Classic colourways. Closure is concealed coconut shell buttons - no plastic, no metal.

White and Natural are both chemical-minimal options relative to dyed colourways, but they are produced differently. Natural is completely unbleached and undyed - the raw ecru colour of the cotton fibre itself, with no chemical processing to alter colour. White uses GOTS-compliant bleaching chemistry to achieve a clean, cool optical white. Natural reads warmer and slightly darker; White reads as a true, neutral white. For people who want the absolute minimum chemical contact, Natural is the more cautious choice. For people who want classic white bedding with strong sustainability credentials, the White Classic is the answer.
Achieving an optical white requires some form of bleaching - GOTS certification means that the bleaching chemistry used in this set meets strict environmental and toxicological standards. GOTS prohibits chlorine-based bleach (sodium hypochlorite), which is the most common industrial bleaching agent and one of the most environmentally damaging. It also prohibits optical brightening agents (OBAs) in finished textiles - synthetic fluorescent compounds that make fabric appear whiter under UV light and are common in conventionally processed white bedding. The White Classic achieves its white through GOTS-compliant processes that avoid the most problematic inputs used in conventional white textile production.
Yes. The 300 thread count sateen weave produces a smooth, low-friction surface, and GOTS certification ensures no harmful residues from bleaching or processing. The prohibition on optical brightening agents is particularly relevant for sensitive skin, as OBAs are one of the more common contact sensitisers in white bedding. This set does not contain them. For people with the most acute dye or bleach sensitivities, the undyed Natural Classic remains the more cautious option - but the White Classic is well within the range recommended for sensitive skin generally.
Both are white, but the weave structure changes how the colour reads. Sateen's four-over-one-under weave brings more yarn to the surface, giving white a soft luminosity and a heavier, more draped hand. Percale's plain one-over-one-under weave produces a matte, crisper white that is lighter in weight and cooler to the touch. Hotel-style white bedding is most commonly percale; the Cottsbury White Classic uses sateen, which gives it a more characterful, less clinical appearance while maintaining the same clean white ground.
All white cotton bedding can yellow gradually with repeated washing, particularly if washed at high temperatures, exposed to excess heat during drying, or washed with products containing chlorine bleach. Washing at 30°C, line drying in open air (natural UV exposure has a mild whitening effect), and using a plant-based detergent without chlorine or OBAs are the most effective ways to maintain colour over time. Avoid fabric softener - it coats fibres and can accelerate yellowing in white fabrics.
